A sturdy ladder helps you to reach high places.
When painting your house by yourself you may find reaching places that are a high climb, such as the top portion of the wall, to be tricky or intimidating. However, high places are no reason to spend a lot of money on professional painters; using the right equipment can help you to reach those tough spots. Save your money and enjoy the sense of accomplishment you'll feel from getting the job done by yourself.
Instructions
1. Lay tarps or old sheets on the floor to avoid dripping or spilling paint on your floors or carpets.
2. Use an A-frame ladder that contains a fold-out landing. Place your paint tray on the landing.
3. Dip a three- to four-inch brush into the paint tray and allow the excess paint to drip off. Paint the wall with short strokes, starting at the top edge and working your way down.
4. Reach particularly high spots with an extension pole. These useful painting poles are available in most hardware and paint supply stores. Most extension poles are adjustable so that you can change the length depending on your needs; simply push the designated button on the pole to make it longer or shorter and then release. Adjust the pole to a height that feels comfortable to you and allows you to more easily reach the high spots in question. Screw a foam roller on the end of the pole; larger rollers are beneficial for painting bigger areas, and thinner rollers give you more control for smaller sections. Similar to using a brush, start painting at the top with small, concise strokes and work your way down.
5. Allow the paint to dry for 12 to 24 hours and then apply a second coat, if desired.
