Homes may not be made out of silver, but you can make your walls appear that they are by painting them a metallic silver glaze. Painting walls a metallic color requires a different procedure than when using standard colored paint, because the base coat must match the metallic color to provide the best effect. Additionally, applying the glaze requires the use of a spray gun.
Instructions
1. Wrap painter's tape around anything that's near the wall and will not get painted silver, such as baseboards and light switches. If you don't have painter's tape, you may use masking tape, but masking tape is more difficult to peel off.
2. Pour gray interior latex paint into a paint tray. The shade of gray should match the shade of silver you wish to apply to the wall. A light silver calls for a lighter gray paint, while darker silver calls for a deeper gray base coat.
3. Apply the gray latex paint to the walls with the use of a paint roller. Use smooth, even strokes. Press the roller onto the wall with gentle force. One coat will suffice. Allow the paint to dry.
4. Apply a silver metallic glaze with the use of a paint sprayer. Turn the paint sprayer to medium pressure and hold the spray gun about 12 inches from the wall. Spray with long, sweeping strokes. Always keep the spray gun moving.
5. Spray on a second coat after the first coat dries, if necessary.
