Don't be afraid to use some vibrant color combinations when making a statement with exterior home painting.
Painting the exterior of your home doesn't have to be relegated to a brand new coat of the same boring color. Take a chance by getting a little creative with your exterior paint scheme. Imagination doesn't have to be stifled just because you know that everyone passing by may be making judgments on your concept of what is creative outdoor painting. It's your house, and you should feel free to make a bold statement for all to see.
The Emerald City
Go green literally by painting the exterior of your home a rich emerald color. The concept of living in the Emerald City is not complete with the paint job on the house. You should paint your driveway to resemble yellow bricks, or lay down an actual yellow brick pathway to bring Oz to life right on your street.
Red Trim
Red can be a color that is overpowering when you make it the base color of your house. If you want the dramatic impact of red, choose a brightly colored hue, and apply it to trim and exterior features. Some judiciously placed Candy Apple or Firetruck Red on the door trim, columns, lighting fixtures and exterior windows can be even more dramatic than painting the entire house red.
Window Silhouettes
A creative idea for exterior painting that can also serve a function if you have large windows is to paint silhouetted figures on the outside of the windows. Silhouettes add a sense of 19th century charm to your house while the figures may also act to discourage intruders and burglars who mistake them at night for occupants.
Patio Faux Rug or Tiles
If you've got a patio, paint a permanent floor covering in the form of a faux carpet or faux tiles. Your outdoor area can come to creative life with the addition of a vibrantly colored fake run or tile flooring. Use two coats of concrete paint for the base, and utilize an exterior sealer to help protect this paint job against wear and tear from regular traffic.
Address Numbers
Get creative with your address by using paint to make it spring to life. Use spray metal paint to make plywood number cutouts look metallic. You may also want to think about painting your address numbers on oversize throw pillows that are permanently stationed in place on a bench on your front porch.
Shutter Murals
Install actual working shutters over the exterior window sections and utilize this surface for artistry's sake. Paint murals that connect when you close the shutters over the windows. Creativity counts for a lot with this exterior painting idea, so don't be afraid to take the plunge and hire an artist to do a first-rate job.
