African Interior Designing

If you're planning to decorate a room or even your whole house in an African theme, then you're in for a treat. African decorating can encompass so many color schemes, from the rich and lush tropical green rain forests to the pale tan desert sand and blue skies.

Painting an African Themed Room

If you think you can handle a mural, this would be the time to try. The African landscape is so beautiful. Otherwise, pick solid colors from your souvenirs or a Kente cloth pattern to duplicate. Paint is the cheapest way to make over a room.

Fabrics of Africa

If you want to stick with the safari theme, then choose fabrics in tan, focusing on texture such as the thick sturdy canvas of the explorer's khakis or the burlap sacks used to transport coffee beans. For more vibrant colors and patterns, use the rich and vibrant patterned Kente cloths that can be used to cover pillows or as window treatments.

Souvenirs From Africa

If you've been to Africa, or if you've purchased souvenirs from Africa, use them in your decor. You can hang masks, drums and other instruments on the wall, and you can display collections of small figurines on wall-mounted shelves, the fireplace mantle or in a curio cabinet.

African Wall Art

Posters of animals like elephants, giraffes, zebras and hippos aren't hard to find. Online vendors such as Art.com have them, and so do local superstores such as Wal-Mart and Kmart. You can buy them framed or unframed. They can add a bit of Africa to any room.

Animal Fur

Whether you go with faux fur or real fur, you can bring in the rich pattern of tigers, leopards and zebras to your home for African decorating.
