Fresh paint Suggestions For A Schoolaged Boy'S Room

Give him a cool, hip pirate room that he will love to play in.

Decorating children's room can be difficult because their interests seem to change with the season. Fortunately, paint is something that can be changed very easily. Decorate your boy's room in his favorite colors or get creative and choose a character theme. Talk to your son about his room and ask him how he would want it, then you can decide. Try to keep the colors light and use bright colors on accent walls.

Sports Theme

If your son is a sports fanatic, you might consider painting his room in a sports theme. Use a wallpaper border that has sports equipment on it and then paint the upper and lower half of the wall a different color. You can choose basic boy colors like blue and green, or get creative and use his favorite sports team's colors. For example, if your son is a huge Lakers fan you might use a wallpaper border with basketballs and then paint the upper half of the wall purple and the lower half yellow. Then hang jerseys and posters to match the theme.

Outer Space Theme

If your child loves rocket ships and planets, pick out a space theme. You want to avoid making his room too dark, so paint the walls in a medium blue or sky blue and paint the ceiling a darker navy blue. You can then add outer space wall decals, or hand paint objects like rocket ships, comets and astronauts. Decorate his ceiling with glow in the dark planets and stars or buy your own glow in the dark paint and create them yourself.

Pirate Theme

Kids often enjoy pirate stories and themes from "Peter Pan" and "Pirates of the Caribbean." If your son loves pirates, he will love this room filled with pirate ships and swords. Begin by painting the walls a sea blue or mustard hue. You can do a combination of the two with a border in the middle. A simple wood border or wallpaper made to look like wood will complement the theme. Hand paint a large pirate ship or skull and crossbones, or apply large wall stickers.

Television or Movie Character Theme

Boys usually have a favorite TV character, whether SpongeBob SquarePants or Spiderman. Coordinate the paint color with his favorite character. For a Spiderman room, for instance, paint the walls a solid color like red or blue and then paint skyscrapers or cobwebs and hang his favorite Spiderman posters. Ask him what he would like and then gauge whether or not it can be painted by hand. Use wall stickers and stencils if you're not comfortable painting by hand.
