Make a Name Necklace
Personalized jewelry is always a favored item and sparks the imagination. A name necklace is no different. You can create your necklace to be anything from cutesy to elegant. These necklaces are a wonderful to show your creativity and individuality. The difficulty of this project depends on the materials, so it can be a wonderful craft for birthday parties or for that special some one.
Instructions
1. Choose what beads you want to use and decide on your pattern. Alternate colors and textures or use all one color. Experiment with glass, ceramic, wood or clay beads. You can also use metal or gemstone beads. Be aware that there are many options besides the diehard plastic beads.
2. Pick the letters for your name out and decide on a layout. Make sure that your choice of letter beads matches the style of the rest of your necklace. For example, don't match expensive looking glass or ceramic beads with cute little plastic letter beads. Make sure that the necklace flows in your preferred style.
3. Decide how long you want your necklace and add about three or four inches. For a more secure necklace, double up the string.
4. Tie the clasp on one end of the necklace. Cut your excess string short or tuck it under the first few beads.
5. Measure your bead pattern next to your string. This will help make sure that your name will be in the middle. If your name has an odd number of letters, you can add a symbol bead that matches your letter beads. Short names can be lengthened by placing decorative patterns in between the beads.
6. Begin beading by placing the beads on the string in the order you've designed for the pattern of the necklace.
7. Tie the other end of the clasp on when you finish beading. Cut the excess short or tuck it under a few beads.
