Thousands of colors are available from which to choose for a fresh, new paint color.
Redecorating a room can sometimes be a challenging task. However, one of the easiest and most economical ways to begin is by choosing a new wall color. Thousands of color possibilities exist, but choosing the right one may not be as difficult as you think.
Instructions
1. The warm colors in this closet suggest that yellow or orange would be a good choice for a wall color.
Look through your closet and the rest of your home. You will find your favorite colors in the clothes you buy and the decor you use. Consider using one of these colors in a muted shade or tint on your living room walls.
2. Neutral paint colors are a safe choice for most people.
Remember the room's use. Create restful, calm environments with neutrals and cool colors, such as blues and greens. Vibrant, warm colors--including oranges and reds--will create a more energetic, exciting atmosphere.
3. Visit a paint store and talk to the professionals. They can advise and suggest colors that match your personality. Collect brochures and paint chips to take home and consider before you narrow your choices to two or three possibilities.
4. Return to the paint store to purchase a small foam brush, two or three sheets of white poster board, and samples of the colors you have chosen. Some stores provide the samples for free; others may charge a small amount.
5. Use the foam brush to paint each of the poster boards in the colors you have chosen. Hang the posterboard with thumbtacks in the room you want to paint. Observe how the changing light in the room may affect the paint color at different points in the day. Live with the colors for a day or two before you make your final decision.
6. Buy your supplies where you buy your paint.
Measure the height and width of the walls you want to paint. Take these measurements to your paint store and let the clerks determine how much paint you need. Follow their advice for the supplies you need to complete your project.
